Tip No. 219
Q. How can I find out what the average salary for my position should be?
A. There are a number of places to obtain this information. Probably the fastest way is to search online. Also these searches often come without a fee. Websites that post jobs often have information related to this topic. Monster® has an entire section of heir website dedicated to this subject. Salary.com is also a very useful resource for this research. Remember to be specific about the city AND the state you are wanting to research for. Cost of living in different areas is a huge factor in the different pay structures throughout the country. If you are relocating to a different city and would like to maintain the same standard of living, but have no idea what you should earn. Then do a search for a "relocation calculator" that will take the price of housing and general cost of living into account, before offering an estimate of the new earnings you should be looking for.
