Tip No. 218
Q. Do I really need to send a thank you note after an interview, it seems so old fashioned.
A. First of all it is a nice thing to do. The person with whom you were visiting has given you his or her valuable time at no cost; the least you can do is express your gratitude in writing. The second function of the thank you letter is to document the referrals you received and reconfirm your intention to follow up on them. The letter also sets you apart from the herd. Most people do not take the trouble to thank others in writing for their help. The fact that you do will make you stand out. Be sure to take the same care in writing this letter as you did with your initial approach letter.
