Tip No. 186
Q. I am looking for a way to be happy at the job I have right now because I know how difficult the market is right now. However, I really do not like what I am doing; I am not using my creative potential. Do you have any suggestions about what I might do?
A. One very wise career counselor once said to me, There is a high correlation between self-awareness and doing what one is called to do. In fact, there are books written about job satisfaction and the keys to happiness at the workplace. Most people who work 40 hours or more a week are spending almost 80% of their waking hours at work. That is an enormous amount of time to spend each day in a negative mind set. Two books that you might check into purchasing or borrowing from the library are: How To Do The Work You Love, by Lawrence Bolt and The Art of Happiness at Work, by Howard C. Cultler, M.D. Both of these works are filled with inspirational quotes and practical advice about ways to change both your attitude and adopt new ideas about how to make what you are doing now into something meaningful and rewarding.
