Tip No. 182
Q. I have been unemployed for over nine months, and quite frankly I am getting panicked about being out of the workforce for so long. Id like to know more about temporary agencies. Can you point me in the right direction?
A. The American Staffing Association website might help you locate a temporary agency in your area: (www.staffingtoday.net). When working with a temporary agency it is important to make sure your resume is complete and has current contact information.
Additionally, find out what the agency expects of you up front. Negotiate a commitment with the staffing firm you can live with, but one which leaves allows you to pursue opportunities on your own. Should the agency place you in a temporary position, keep them informed about changes within the company where you are placed. Be sure to consider how you would handle the proposition if you are offered a full time job within the company where you have been placed. This should be part of your up-front negotiations with the temporary staffing agency.
