Tip No. 173
Q. I am not getting any "bites" from my current resume. Do you have any ideas about what might be happening?
A. There are several reasons your resume might not be getting a response. One is the appearance of the document. Have you thoroughly checked spelling, grammar and syntax accuracy? Additionally, check the length and details of your resume; remember that most resumes receive approximately one minute of a potential employers time, so make each word count. However, a fine-tuned, concise resume can only go so far; perhaps you are applying for positions that fall outside the area for which you are qualified. Read all information about the job description so that you do not waste anyones time. Finally, it could be that the person you are sending the resume to is not the person making the decisions. A follow-up phone call can make a difference in your job efforts regardless of the size of the company.
