Tip No. 169
Q. Should my resume state "References available upon request?"
A. Currently most resume formats leave that phrase off the resume template. A separate document is preferable, and can be provided to a potential employer if requested as part of the application or if an offer is imminent. The following items are important to include on a reference page:
name of the person and his title
his relationship to you
address of reference
phone number/email (the way this person prefers to be contacted)
Additionally, it is a good idea to make contact with the person that you are using as a reference to get permission to give out his information and to refresh his memory about your work. Remember that a reference is also a potential contact for future job leads.
