Tip No. 166
Q. I keep hearing that it is better to let the interviewer do most of the talking in an interview? Is this true?
A. Yes, it is always a good idea to listen attentively to your interviewer. However, interviewers may enjoy your full attention so much that they ask few questions or ask ones that are so broad that you don't know where to begin answering. Therefore, it is a good idea to use any question as a spring board for sharing your strengths and accomplishments in a subtle and skillful way. Using a technique called bridging, you can use a question to move the conversation in a direction that highlights your expertise in a certain area. Additionally, with practice, you can steer the conversation in the most productive direction, no matter what kinds of questions they throw your way.
