Tip No. 144

Q. I was wondering if I should include my current part-time (temporary) job on my resume? Also, if one of my great accomplishments was not work-related, can I still include it as one of the 3 accomplishments on my resume?
A. It is not necessary to list your current part-time job on your resume. Your jobs should be documented by years (i.e. 2002-2003), so months open between jobs are not obvious. If asked in an interview, you can mention this part-time job and have some "professional-development-type" reasons you are there: i.e. "I sought to further my love of the culinary arts in this career transition period...".

It is important that the professional accomplishments included on your resume be professional in nature. I don't know what you have in mind, but they should each be job-related, or demonstrate clearly a desired job-related trait like "leadership" or "project management". In an interview setting, it is appropriate for you to share accomplishments from other settings, provided you link the lessons learned and the strengths demonstrated to the professional position in question.

Best of luck to you!
