For Immediate Release
May 19, 1997
On May 14, 1997, Career Management InternationalÆ (CMI) is sending one of their counselors to prison - for a short term. Terry Devlin, a career counselor and licensed professional counselor for CMI, will be joining other community businesses in holding a Mock Job Fair at the Dempsie Henley Unit for Women located in Dayton, Texas.
The Mock Job Fair is part of the Crime Prevention Institute's Project Re-Enterprise program that teaches job seeking skills to ex-offenders throughout the state of Texas. Through the project ex-offenders learn the skills needed to fill out job applications and conduct themselves professionally in interviews. Mr. Devlin will be presenting interview techniques and the "do's and dont's of interviewing" to the Dempsie Henley women scheduled for release in the near future. Criminal justice statistics reflect that an unemployed ex-offender is three times more likely to recidivate (return to prison) than an ex-offender with a job. Project Re-Enterprise teaches ex-offenders about the job seeking process to enable them to return to their communities, gain employment and become productive members of society.
On May 15th participants will have an opportunity to put into practice what they have learned from the interviewing workshop as they are interviewed by representatives from a diverse group of businesses. Mr. Devlin, who previously participated in a Job Fair held at the Texas Department of Corrections Central Unit said, "It was a positive experience and I am looking forward to doing it once again."
Career Management InternationalÆ (CMI) is celebrating its 20th year of business.
