For Immediate Release
March 2, 1998
Career Management InternationalÆ (CMI) and Relocation Property
Services, Dallas, Texas, have joined forces to provide
"relocation counseling." Fifty percent (50%) of
families are now dual career and as a part of a
two-career/two-income family where one spouse has been
transferred or accepted a new job, employment for the
"trailing spouse" is a top concern. The key to being
successful lies in utilizing all the career transition skills and
tools which are available and in building and cultivating a
network. Relocation Property Services and CMI are partnering to
assist these dual career families with two of the biggest stress
provokers: change which brings about a loss of equilibrium and
the feelings of frustration which accompany the beginning of a
job search.
Susan Silvano, President of CMI, offers these tips for the trailing spouse: "Contact friends and acquaintances both in your desired field of work and outside of your field for possible referrals in the new location. Subscribe to the the Sunday newspaper; research wants ads and read the business section to help get an understanding of the business climate for that area. If the spouse's company is responsible for the move, check with their human resources department to see if they have trailing spouse career transition assistance. Contact the Chamber of Commerce for lists of the top businesses in the area. Sign up with a temporary agency. This can provide you with a job and income while you continue your search."
Silvano also adds, "Realize that adjustment, feeling part of the community, making friends and finding a new position or career takes time, so be kind to yourself; don't be down on yourself if you have periods of sadness. Give yourself permission to feel both positive and negative feelings about the move and your career transition."
Career Management InternationalÆ (CMI) is celebrating its 21st year of business.
