For Immediate Release Can Stress Modify the Way You Look at the World? [Houston, Texas ]

Career Management International has been providing a glimpse into communication styles for over a decade, through our proprietary assessment tool, Kingdomality! While it is very true that people do not change their styles, any more than leopards change their spots, it is also true that people can and do modify their behavior.
At the national ASTD conference in San Diego last month, attendees came to CMI's booth to; "find out who they would have been in the medieval kingdom". This year, for the first time, more attendees found that they would have been Benevolent Rulers instead of Dreamer Minstrels. As a matter of course, training professionals lean towards the Dreamer Minstrel role, which reflects the type of person who sees "the silver lining in every cloud" and uses this approach to life in their capacity as trainers.
In times of stress, the Dreamer Minstrel can become more oriented toward their own vision, their own take on the kingdom. When this style modification occurs, the Dreamer Minstrel leans toward communicating as a Benevolent Ruler, who is in charge of his or her kingdom, and who expects the subjects of the kingdom to "get with the program." Attendees who had taken the Kingdomality assessment in previous years, and who noticed this subtle change in their approach, agreed that the past year had been a trying one for them because of various external issues.
CMI president, Susan Silvano commented, "Stress is often the result of change, whether positive or negative, and can be magnified by attending the stressor rather than the goal." The old saying, "It's hard to remember why you are draining the swamp when you're up to your elbows in alligators," demonstrates that point quite well. The increase in Benevolent Rulers at this year's ASTD conference, is an indicator that more people may now be keeping an eye on the goals in their lives and may also show that these individuals, for the most part, are attempting to react with some resiliency to the stress of the past year.
Many of these attendees were interested in purchasing CMI's Stress Resiliency seminar to assist them in providing this training to their company's employees. Carol Giardina, Counselor and Director of Corporate Development stated, "Stress Resiliency training allows participants to assess their stress levels, learn how they react to stress and understand how they respond to their organization's challenges. This is a wonderful tool for employee training as participants acquire the skills to effectively meet the demands of the changing global workplace by defining positive lifestyle practices to better manage stress."
