The Wall Street Transcript Features Interview With Susan Silvano of Career Management, Outplacement Leader and Innovator
HOUSTON &endash; (February 2, 2004) &endash; Susan R. Silvano, President and owner of Career Management International, Inc. (CMI) is featured in a Wall Street Journal Transcript CEO interview outlining CMI's many contributions and 27 year history of proven leadership in the field of outplacement.
Silvano was selected for the interview due to CMI's major role in the outplacement industry as a woman-owned small business with global contracts. CMI's first major client was an international Fortune 100 company that is still CMI's most valuable partner today. To explain CMI's success with this company, Silvano states, "we have worked very, very hard over the years to maintain top quality services and to provide innovative solutions to difficult human resource problems. Although all of our competitors want to supplant us, we have been able to move from working with the employees of one plant in Texas to now working with all employees globally. As we continue to go through bid process after bid process with this company, we find it so personally rewarding to know that our company mission and devotion to successful outcomes is recognized and that their separating employees career/life success is appreciated and valued."
CMI began business in 1976 with the conviction of the counseling team of Richard and Susan Silvano that career counseling and outplacement were concepts of benefit to businesses and their employees. Silvano states, "I think that one of the reasons that we have been successful for all these years is because of the way we look at the outplacement business. To us at CMI, the outplacement business is not simply helping people write a resume to get a new job; it's providing people with the ability to look at what they have done well in the past, to encourage them to kind of dream about what they might like to do in the future, and to guide them through a rigorous process to combine those things into a really marketable definition of who they are. We then teach them how to talk to other people about their measurable accomplishments, so they can expand their network and increase their exposure during the job search. All my counselors are Masters or Ph.D. level counselors who specialize in career counseling. CMI uses this model because job change can be a life-changing event, and needs to be treated with care, expertise and efficiency. We never want to shortchange our clients."
In describing CMI's corporate mission, Silvano stated, "I think that career counseling and teaching people and organizations how to most successfully manage change are very, very important services. If I could be queen for a day, I would hope that everyone going through high school, and college, would have an opportunity to find out who they are in terms of their strengths, and also begin to really learn what they like to do, in marketable terms. Until that time, I'd like our firm to continue working with all the people that we are able to work with, to help them find out what they want to be when they grow up and to help them get there!"
CMI recognizes the substantial corporate investment in human capital and delivers effective programs required by businesses, government and academia to maximize the return on that investment. Founded in 1976, CMI is headquartered in Houston and has offices throughout the United States. CMI's staff utilizes their creative energy to focus on providing customized solutions to current business challenges.
