Do your executives need an executive
assistance program?

- Most executives, who might be willing to share
their personal and/or family problems, want a professional
counselor whom they feel has achieved a level of success that is
comparable to or greater than their own.
- Studies have shown that executives have not
sought help until problems are extremely well advanced. Most male
executives who suffer from alcoholism have been alcoholics for an
average of 21 years and most women executives for 15 years before
they find the help that enables them to recover.
- Presently, as well as in the past, only about
4% of all executives use or have used an assistance program
because of:
- The difficulty of detection. (At their
level there is little supervision).
- The help they get in covering up from
secretaries, colleagues and others.
- The feelings of isolation they
experience.
- The extremely strong denial mechanisms they
use.
- The fear of detection and concern about
confidentiality.
- The belief that existing programs were
designed for lower level employees.
- The mistaken idea that they can
successfully manage all of their own problems.
According to one study, recovery could have
started anywhere from 3 to 12 years earlier if the participant
executives had realized what their problems were and if their
companies had been willing and able to provide confidential and
professional help instead of ignoring or covering up for their
troubled executives. This professional help, at the level demanded by
executives, is now available through Life Management
International.
